There is wisdom in the space between your thoughts. Becoming aware of this space is one of our aims in yoga. Yoga - the #Sanskrit word for union - is a practice for uniting body and mind, maybe breath and spirit. For some, it is the union between the self and True Self. For others, union is felt when connected with Universe or their god.
Whatever your take is, this union occurs through awareness of *what is*. We practice yoga to better understand our bodies...#mindfulness to better the quality of our interactions and environment...#meditation to better understand our thoughts. Interestingly, during meditation our practice lies in observing the space between the thoughts, rather than the thoughts themselves. And it is in this space that we can uncover personal truths.
The content of our thoughts represent our goals, accomplishments, fears and challenges, resolutions, destinations...but it is the quiet space in between these that tells us the most about where we are and what we feel. In between the to-do lists, worries, and calculations is a vast reservoir of #intuition, understanding and humanity. It takes practice and a simple desire to know these things to even begin an attempts at acknowledging the “space between”.
Often times, especially at this time of year, we get so caught up in our goals and plans that we forget that life is happening in the “now” - space between yesterday and tomorrow, #2018 and #2019, between jobs or relationships, between yoga studios, yoga poses, breaths, thoughts.
I invite you, to join me in honoring the beautiful spaces in between. Put aside any pressure to do, change, edit or grow and just be. Forget any resolutions to diet, exercise, travel...any tendency to dwell on the past or look for things to improve on. Instead, #pause. Just long enough to acknowledge your own feelings and to gracefully check in with where you are now, here and today.
Let this be your #NewYear intention - to be mindful and present in all that you do. To honor the wisdom between your thoughts. The potential between breaths. And the beauty of each moment, exactly as it is. Happy New Year. ✨ xo, Bryce & the OY Crew
