This #MeditationMonday is the second part of the seven part Chakra series we started a few weeks back. If you missed the intro to chakras, please read the muladhara post from 6/28.
The second chakra svadhisthana is the seat of pleasure, passion and creativity. It is located above the root chakra, about an inch below the navel. When this energy center is balanced, you experience feelings, enjoyment, sensuality, and creative energy. To work on balancing the svadhistana chakra, choose from one of the three following meditations:
1. Return to the color visualization meditation from week 1, this time using bright orange light originating below the navel.
2. Breathing with the left nostril channels lunar energy, which helps to open the second chakra. Practice Ida Nadi pranayama (left nostril breathing), by using your right index and middle fingers to close off the right nostril. Simply breathe in and out of the left side for 8-10 long, deep breaths.
3. Practice baddha konasana, bound angle pose with a forward fold. Find a seat and bring the soles of the feet together. Let the knees drop out to the side, lengthen the torso at the low back and fold forward. While you rest here (3-5 min), try repeating the mantra “vam” (pronounced vah-m like mom not ma’am).
Bonus option! Put some tunes on and DANCE! Let yourself move without judgement or fear. Be creative and have fun!
Remember, the point of meditation is to be mindful without judgement. Don't worry if the mind wanders. Just return to your breath and refocus on your intention.
